Central Texas College will commemorate National Distance Learning Week, which runs from Nov. 7 to 10, with a variety of online activities to engage students and potential online users. During the week, the public is invited to learn how distance education can help achieve educational goals, become familiar with the services available to the CTC distant learner and participate in a series of online activities at the CTC Distance Education website, www.online.ctcd.edu.
“Online learning is the fastest growing segment of education with 3.5 million adults and 700,000 K-12 students taking a course and/or completing their degree completely online,” said Sharon Davis, director of CTC Distance Education and Education Technology. “CTC’s online degree program ranks among the largest of all two-year institutions with an enrollment of nearly 56,000 students. CTC’s online program allows military and civilian students to achieve their educational goals regardless of their location, job or family obligations.”
Starting Monday, CTC will host virtual events for students and the public including online scavenger hunts and trivia challenges for prizes. Various CTC departments will host webinars and offer recorded presentations describing available services and opportunities. Brief sessions providing success tips for distant learners are also scheduled.
CTC, which was recently named the number one online program among two-year schools in Texas (sixth in the nation), offers more than 30 degree and certificate of completion programs which can be completed solely online and more than 400 online and blended courses to meet the needs of its students. In addition to online courses, CTC also offers multi-media courses delivered on CD-ROM, SD discs and other sources.
