The Bharathidasan University will draw up a plan of action to improve the efficiency of its distance education programmes, its Vice-Chancellor V.M. Muthukumar said on Wednesday.
Inaugurating a nodal centre of the Centre for Distance Education (CDE) on the university’s city campus in Khajamalai here, he said it was felt that the services rendered to students learning under distance mode had to be improved. Besides taking steps to enrol more students, the authorities had to devise a plan of action to serve them well. The students had to be delivered study material on time so as to enable them to refer the lessons periodically.
Under no circumstances, they should be sent study material late. Similarly, there should not be delay in conducting examinations and declaring results. Stating that the university was aware of the need for enhancing quality education in distance learning programmes, Mr. Muthukumar said the technological advancements would be utilised for improving the efficiency. The Centre for Distance Learning would execute its role on fulfilling the expectation of students. Reacting to the demand of R. Mangaleswaran, Syndicate Member, the Vice-Chancellor said an information-cum-grievance centre for the distance learners would start functioning on the Khajamalai campus. All the required infrastructure for the centre would be created shortly.
Stressing the importance of reading, Mr. Muthukumar said all necessary steps would be taken to expand the library on the Khajamalai campus.
P.K. Manoharan, Director, Centre for Distance Learning, said the nodal centre would enable the students to get all services in the city itself.
